AUGUST 24, 2008 - REBEL NYC

- Musical Guests -

Voltaire: Voltaire will be performing exclusively at the Dances of Vice Festival II with his full skeletal orchestra. Voltaire is often described as a modern day renaissance man. He is a singer/performer, creator of comic books, animation and toys.

Voltaire's live shows, whether solo or with his skeletal orchestra, are highly theatrical. As a musician, he is a songwriter whose music can best be described as a collection of murder ballads and tongue-in-cheek exercises in the macabre with Eastern European influences.

The Deadfly Ensemble: Biography coming soon.

Fern Knight: After moving to Philadelphia two years ago, Fern Knight has evolved into a solid touring and recording quartet, playing on local bills with legends like Vashti Bunyan and Joe Boyd and contemporaries Vetiver and Damon & Naomi.

Their cohesive recorded and live sound is driven by Wienk's acoustic guitar, cello and crystal vocals and rests upon the core quartet's improvisational skills and tasteful combination of acoustic and electronic instruments, providing the perfect vehicle for Wienk's unique songwriting and string arrangements.

Fern Knight is:
Margaret Wienk, vocals, guitars & cello - Jim Ayre, electric guitar & percussion - Jesse Sparhawk, harp and electric bass - James Wolf, violin and viola

Stumblebum Brass Band: "As of late, this hypnotic rumbling-raunch-jazz trio has been turning up all over the city in a nearly Mephistophelean manner. They appear from nowhere, breath smoke and fire from trumpet and tuba, pound on their drum whilst parading through the crowd, and then abruptly disappear into the New York night. Are they banshees? wraiths? demons? Do they possess some uncanny ability to locate a lull in frivolity and then dispel it with ungodly powers?..." -The Cad

Find out for yourself at Dances of Vice, where they will be representing the Jazz Age with a distinctly punk edge.

Azrael's Accomplice Designs will be showcasing her line of period gowns inspired by the 18th and 19th Century fashion, as well as several steampunk and Renaissance style pieces in an elaborate "fashion theatre" feature at Dances of Vice. Azrael's Accomplice will also be featuring her pieces as a vendor at the festival.

Azrael's Accomplice started as a small home based custom alternative clothing company in 1996. It was founded and is still run by Tracy Robertson, known also in the underground fashion and subculture community by her nickname, Batty. Tracy's designs are influenced by history, fine couture, other world cultures, and underground style.

Kristine Huiskens of La Metamorphose is a costume designer for theater, television and film. She enjoys sewing historical costumes "just because sometimes you need to make something pretty", and these are often sold to reenactors, museums and those who love to dress up. She loves creating couture gowns and mostly works independently, choosing the designs, highest quality fabrics and drafting and sewing the items herself. She is also an expert at hand-sewn hems, beadwork and real hand embroidery.

Award winning Canadian designer Sidonie founded To Die For Designs in 2002 after 6 years of studying design, fashion history and corsetry. At that time Toronto's Goth Scene was faltering and Sidonie turned to the Victorian era to create stunning designs with a sense of living history. Since then, To Die For Designs have appeared in fashion shows throughout Ontario and the US. We have shared stages with such diverse bands as The Genitorturers, Hansel Und Gretyl, Android Lust, Johnny Hollow and Abney Park. This will be To Die For Designs' first appearance in New York and we look forwards to bringing our unique take on Victoriana to this fine event.

Molly Crabapple is an artist, author, and the founder of Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School, a dangerous art cult that sketches in 55 cities around the world.

She will be vending and offering vintage-style caricatures of Dances of Vice guests at the festival. You can see her work at www.mollycrabapple.com.

She likes absinthe, incense, big skirts and coffee, and hopes to once again study Arabic.

His Master's Voice has traversed the windswept corners of the globe in search of musical curiosities and sensual delights.  Partaking in his brand of auditory indulgence can melt the heart of the most perverse trollop and often causes hardened thugs to soil themselves.

DJ PATRICK is New York City's longest running goth DJ. He has spun at The Bank (Ward 6), Limelight (Communion), The Pyramid (Stigmata) and Albion / Batcave - The biggest Goth night New York ever had. He currently spins at Necromantic and Salvation. I have been spinning the best traditional gothic, deathrock, and new wave since 1992.
